Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a technique for human artificial insemination, where sperm is injected directly into a woman’s uterus for the purpose of impregnating, most of the cases are single women or lesbian would like to have baby without male partner by using donor sperm.
IUI process is quite cheap and low risk. Insemination may also be performed into the Fallopian tube although this procedure is no longer generally regarded as having any beneficial effect compared with IUI.
Due to content of prostaglandins, semen needed to be washing otherwise, it may cause uterine cramping and pain. Prostaglandins are also the compounds responsible for causing the myometrium to contract and expel the menses from the uterus, during menstruation.
The women should be under 30 years of age to have more change of conception with IUI procedure. The donor sperm have to satisfy with more than 5 millions of TMS per ml.
The success rate for IUI to achieve pregnancy is about 60-70% after 6 cycles.
