Measles is acute, contagious viral skin disease caused by virus which also known as rubeola. Measles is spread through respiration from contact with fluids that infected person’s nose and mouth, either directly or through aerosol transmission, and is highly contagious—90% of people without immunity sharing a house with an infected person will catch it.
Signs and Symptoms
- Fever may reach up to 40° Celsius (104° Fahrenheit).
- Cough.
- Runny nose.
- Red eyes.
- Skin rash
- Sore throat
- Red spot in the mouth and on the cheeks.
- Itching.
- Diarrhea.
- Pneumonia
- Encephalitis.
- Corneal ulceration
Causes
- Contact with infected person. measles is a highly contagious airborne pathogen which spreads primarily via the respiratory system. The virus is transmitted in respiratory secretions, and can be passed from person to person via aerosol droplets containing virus particles, such as those produced by a coughing patient.
- Vitamin A deficiency will lead to the condition of measles.
- Immunodeficiency due to HIV/AIDS.
- Measles can have several complications, some of which are life threatening. Ratio 1 of 1000 patient dies of measles.
Treatment
- Following immunization (vaccine) schedules to prevent measles for children.
- Get extra rest to help them recover.
- Cool-mist humidifier to soothe respiratory passages and relieve cough, and acetaminophen (Tylenol) to reduce fever and relieve discomfort.
- Drinking orange juice, lemon juice, ginger tea to strength immune system to fight measles virus.
- There is no medication to treat measles, these are some method that help to reduce fever and others symptoms. So the body can fight viruses.
