Acne conglobata is skin disease caused by inflammatory nodules, draining sinus tracts, comedones, and abscesses. It’s difficult to treat when causing deep scar. Acne conglobata is a rare form of acne, most of the patient between 18 and 30 years old. It is associated with testosterone and thus appears mainly in men.
Signs and Symptoms
- Blackheads acne appears mostly around the face, neck, chest, upper arms and buttocks in groups of two or three.
- Nodes are large and engorged with fluid.
- It’s hurt when touching.
- Acne kept growing until break down and fill with pus
- They left scar after heal.
Causes
- It causes by anabolic steroid abuse
- Acne conglobata appears in some men after stopping testosterone therapy.
- It could also happen to someone who has a tumour that is releasing large amounts of androgens.
- It could be triggered by exposure to aromatic hydrocarbons or ingestion of halogens
Treatment
- The most effective treatment is isotretinoin with combination of prednisone.
- Doctor may also descript antibiotic such as tetracycline or erythromycin
- Carbon dioxide laser treatment is also an optional with follow up topical tretinoin therapy.
- If the large nodes, surgery may be needed.
- Some Doctors may treat acne conglbata by injected with triamcinolone.
