It is not a secret for anyone that we’re in the middle of a hard situation. The COVID-19 Pandemic has hit every sector of human activities; however, no other part of the economy has been hit so hard as the tourism worldwide. The viral outbreak happened in a season where many people were enjoying the seasonal holidays, thus causing scenarios of countless people worldwide trapped in airports, hotels and even cruises.
Every prediction from the UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization) already predicts that the scenario at the end of this year will not be as good as they were back on 2019. Even though this was one of the economic activities that were showing the highest growth rates since the beginning of the past decade, the truth is that this specific sector has its most important foundation in the person to person interaction for most of its different parts.
Europe has been targeted with one of the outbreak’s major blows worldwide, having one of the highest numbers of infected people and deaths caused by the virus. Being one of the most popular destinations for tourists from all over the world, this caused a chaotic scenario where many of the touristic cities were put on a lockdown, causing tourists to be trapped far away from home, this being specifically harsh on the waves of British tourist waves that usually hit on Spanish coasts and islands during the period of the year when the outbreak started.
Like every other place around the planet, Spain streets are now deserted, and this included the termination of public transportations services, and this has led travelers to stay inside their vocational homes for periods that weren’t suspected. Many of them have now recurred to transfer Valencia services in order to get their supplies without having to move around in public transportation. Much of the tourist population that is still found around Spain’s destinations is composed on people from England, and many of them are part of the risk population due to their age and conditions.
However, savings do not last forever and the economic situation that this pandemic has brought upon the society is far from over. Many say that it is just starting. As we’re getting closer to the end of the first half of the year things don’t seem to be improving. The UNWTO is inviting everyone to stay home with their #TravelTomorrow, as they are asking governments from all over the world to help with the recovery on this sector once the plague is over.
